Julie's trip to Quetta - Day 4

(if you have not read the prologue or days 1, 2 and 3, scroll down the page and start from there - Julie apologises for it being so long but I told her not to worry, I know you dear reader have nothing else to do .....)

After yet another short night, in the morning Shahzada took me for a trip around the main streets of Quetta to see all the market traders and stalls. We stopped so I could buy some traditional Baloch hats for Richard and the boys. I also managed to get some good pictures of the very colourful Pakistan buses and auto rickshaws that you see everywhere in this part of the world. It is a specialised trade to paint the buses. They are all custom designed and are very impressive.

Shahzada then decided that it would be best if we ate lunch before I get to the airport. He parked the car and I saw a large barbeque type affair by the side of the road that had chicken and lamb pieces roasting around a log fire squewered to long metal stakes. Surely he didn’t mean for us to eat here? There of course is exactly where we had our lunch. During which time I saw a horse and cart deliver a whole sack of chickens, some of which fell out the sack and were simply picked up off the cart floor and stuffed back into the sack. I was quite pleased we had picked ‘lamb’, which turned out to be goat, for our lunch! Despite my misgiving it was actually a very delicious and I suffered no side effects from it.

It was quite sad to say goodbye to Shahzada and Faheem as they left me at the hotel to wait for the airport shuttle. We had spent so much time together over the last two days they were now old friends.

The flight to Islamabad was very easy and I was again met by a driver from Rob’s company who took me to their staff house. An unbelievably posh house with golden gates and lots of guards.
